Major European locations

The GKN story began in the UK in 1759. A small ironworks in Dowlais, South Wales, which, over more than 250 years, has developed into a global engineering company. 

Today in the UK we employ more than 6,000 people based across our Head Office and ten manufacturing locations, supplying aerospace, automotive and agricultural products to our global customers.

GKN’s presence in Germany dates back to the 1960s.

Today we have a total workforce of over 8,000 and significant operations for GKN Driveline and GKN Powder Metallurgy, as well as an aerostructures manufacturing facility in Munich.

GKN Driveline, Lohmar, Germany

GKN has three manufacturing sites in Sweden that operate in the autmotive and aerospace sectors, and employs around 3,000 people in the country. 

GKN Aerospace Engine Systems in Sweden works with composites and advances metallic technologies to develop aero engines and is also Europe’s centre of excellence for nozzles and turbines for the European space program. GKN Driveline in Sweden specialises in the production of high-end all-wheel drive driveline technology for some of the world’s major car manufacturers.

GKN Driveline, Koping, Sweden

The acquisition of Dutch aerospace company Fokker Technologies Group B. V. in 2015 gave GKN Aerospace a strong foothold into the Netherlands.

Four manufacturing sites in the country and a workforce of more than 3,000 employees specialise in the design, development and production of smart light-weight aerostructures, electrical systems, landing gear and services for the aerospace and defence industry.
