GKN Sinter Metals is able to offer the right material for applications which
need surface densified working areas, considering the combination of the core
powder metallurgy production and the forming process as well as any additional operations needed for the product.

During the product and process design phase, application related torques & stresses as well as planned heat treatment and machining processes are key input data for the material selection with a good performance / cost balance.

Performance data of sintered and surface densified gears are compared based on tooth root and tooth flank performance tests on GKN owned test benches – if needed in close cooperation with our customers.

However, today it is known that surface densified PM gears and case hardened 16MnCr5 gears have comparable performance. For detailed information concerning P/M materials please use our contact sheet.
