Our business

Overview

Overview

We believe in building a high performance business and are committed to delivering safe, high quality products and services. We also believe in creating a culture of continuous improvement across GKN, applying the Lean Enterprise model to everything that we do. While we want to win in business, we must do so fairly, and the GKN Code requires honest and proper conduct from all GKN employees. We also expect the same from our suppliers and other business partners.

Continuous improvement

At GKN we recognise that what we do well today, we can do even better tomorrow. We are committed to a culture of zero defects and continuous improvement and GKN’s Lean Enterprise model provides a framework for CI across the Group. Employees from office, factory floor and executive levels are trained to identify value for customers and shareholders; to eliminate waste; to remove barriers; and to develop skills in coaching and problem solving.

All our sites have a continuous improvement plan, aligned to business objectives, which engages employees to consistently focus on positive development.

Quality

We are committed to supplying safe and high quality products and services, judging our performance from the point of view of our customers. Quality management systems are in place across all divisions, with relevant industry standards held across the Group. The ‘Voice of the Customer’ initiative, launched in 2014, which tracks online customer scoring of our performance, is now firmly established in the monthly divisional operational review process, and we judge ourselves using our customers’ quality data on our performance.

Honest and proper conduct

Honest and proper conduct

Honest and proper conduct is the foundation of the way we do things at GKN. We are committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct and do not tolerate corrupt practices of any kind.

This includes:

  • avoiding conflicts between our personal interests and those of GKN
  • competing fairly
  • not bribing people or accepting bribes
  • maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity in our business records
  • protecting our Company assets
  • respecting personal information
  • complying with Export Control laws
  • treating our suppliers and partners with fairness and integrity.

Our commitment to run our business ethically is embedded in the GKN Code and the Group Policies. Our Anti-Bribery and Corruption Compliance Plan further explains our approach to managing the bribery risks to which we are potentially exposed.

Our Group policies are available on request and must be followed by all GKN employees and Board members. These policies are reviewed and updated, where necessary, in response to any actual or alleged instance of corruption.

Suppliers

Suppliers

At GKN our suppliers are integral to the sustainability of our business. We are committed to treating all our suppliers and partners with fairness and integrity, and aim to develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.

In return we expect our suppliers to do the right thing. This means that in addition to providing high quality products or services, we expect them, their employees and their supply chains to operate in a way that supports our commitment to strong ethical standards and world class performance.

Our Supplier Code of Conduct sets out the minimum standards we expect of all our suppliers.
