Diffusion bonding
Overview
Diffusion bonding is a solid state welding process whereby two metals are brought together in the presence of heat and pressure to form a joint. Application of heat and pressure provides the intimate contact required for atoms to migrate across the joint resulting in very high joint efficiencies.
Advantages
- High joint efficiencies
- Joining dissimilar metals is possible
- Consistent process
Used on
- Engine inner fixed structure
- Engine exhausts
- Engine bay panels
